Home Computing Weekly begins publication

The first issue of Home Computing Weekly was published on Tuesday 8 March 1983 by Argus Specialist Publications.

The new weekly magazine covered the rapidly expanding home-computer market, with news, reviews, software, programming and features covering machines including the ZX81, ZX Spectrum, VIC-20, BBC Micro, Dragon and Oric-1.

Issue 1 included a special report on the 6th ZX Microfair, held at the New Horticultural Hall in London on 5 March 1983. The report described the rapidly growing event, with nearly 8,000 visitors and nearly 100 exhibitors, and detailed many of the new hardware and software products demonstrated at the show.

The first issue also included reviews of ZX81 software, programming material and a major launch competition offering fifteen 48K ZX Spectrums with printers and software, together with £2,500 worth of software from Quicksilva.

Home Computing Weekly went on to publish 133 issues before its final issue in October 1985.
